Hearing Tests For Children

A hearing test with Coastal Audiology can help identify and manage a temporary hearing loss caused by an ear infection or middle ear pathology such as “glue ear”.

In the rare case a permanent hearing loss is identified our skilled audiologist can support families through the rehabilitation process.

Signs to look for:

  • pulling at their ears
  • has sore or blocked ears
  • TV volume increasing
  • they are shouting
  • speech and language is not developing as expected

Our experienced audiologist can identify if your child has a hearing loss, create a management plan and liaise with your GP so they can make informed decisions on your child’s health.

Hearing Tests For Adults

According to the World Health Organisation one in five people have a hearing loss, at Coastal Audiology we recommend everyone has a hearing test even if they do not identify with having a hearing loss. This is a great way to establish a baseline and identify if any changes occur in the future.

If you are having hearing difficulty our audiologist can give you specific recommendations and strategies based on your individual needs.

Comprehensive audiology tests are available for both private and hearing services program clients.

Central Auditory Processing Disorder

Coastal Audiology is the leading Auditory Processing Disorder specialist for children and adults on the Gold Coast.

CAPD is thought to affect about 5% of the population. It is a disorder in which the ears can hear normally but have difficulty processing and interpreting speech.

For people affected by CAPD, it can be difficult to concentrate and understand conversation and instructions in more complex environments such as when there are distracting noises like in classrooms, cafes/restaurants or other social settings with background noise. This can lead to learning, language and reading difficulties, increased fatigue and social withdrawal.

Tinnitus

Treatment – tinnitus therapy helps your brain adjust to the sound of tinnitus, reducing its intensity and making it easer to manage. With the guidance of an experienced audiologist, a personalised treatment plan can be developed to help you manage tinnitus and restore the quality of your life you once had.

A hearing and tinnitus assessment is always recommended with a new onset or long standing tinnitus that has not been investigated.

Ear Wax Removal

The ear works to remove wax naturally through its self-cleaning mechanism and movement of the jaw. Generally, it requires no intervention, however, sometimes it builds up blocking the ear canal which may lead to discomfort, itchiness, a blocked sensation, or voices sounding muffled.

Unlike traditional ear syringing, with microsuction the ear is kept dry throughout the procedure making it easy to perform with minimal risk.

Microsuction is a comfortable and safe alternative to ear syringing and recommended by Ear nose and Throat specialists.

Ear Wax Removal Fees: $110 adult, $100 Pensioner & $85 Child (age 5 -15)
